We came back from our Mayo/Pittsburgh trip around midnight last Monday. Last week was a crazy one so now we’re just finally getting back to our normal routine. Beckett’s school is on fall break this week, so we’re a little off, but having two fewer car trips a day is never a bad thing.
First off, Mayo Clinic is a beautiful, efficient medical Mecca. The facilities are amazing! Completely up on the newest technology, super friendly staff. We had a lot of downtime between appointments and always found a comfy place to sit. We took shuttles everywhere, from airport to Rochester, hotel to Mayo, and from one building to the next. All shuttles were equipped with chair lifts so Beckett got to stay in his stroller for every trip. That alone made life so much simpler!
We had about ten appointments in our five days there. An EEG, neuro consult, 24-hour EEG, sleep study, consult with a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor, MRI, lots of labs, and an iron infusion. Beckett was a trooper for most appointments. He had some fussy nights but mostly full of smiles and sounds.
I went in with high expectations and left a little disappointed. We learned that he’s having seizures, so since have started medication. His iron levels are low, though not anemic, but that could be contributing to his sleep issues. But ultimately, I learned that all neurologists are essentially the same. By the book, not optomistic. But still necessary and relevant. So, mixed feelings in the end, but still a valuable experience.
These pictures are all out of order but I don’t want to delete them and fix it 😉
Happy as can be getting an iron infusion.
Waiting to go back for his MRI.
